WATERCOLOR PAPER

Watercolor paper is paper or substrate onto which an artist applies watercolor paints, pigments or dyes.Arches began production of watercolor paper around 1620.
We use ARCHES® Platine 100% cotton rag, no alkaline reserve, acid-free, no optical brightening agents, made on a cylinder mould

MAKING EMULSION

Each process consist of creating a photosensible emulsion ready to cath the light.
Depending on the process, we use ferrous, non ferrous, pigment or oil materials.
The sentitizer chemicals are mixed by hand in our lab with very precise proportion.

APPLYING EMULSION

Most emulsions are liquid enought to be apply by hand with special brush.
It need to be fast, precise, and homogenous.
It is all about crafting the shape of the final image.

PRINTING NEGATIVE

Our historical processes are called " contact printing".
It involve a Negativ print of your picture, as . big as the final Image.
We use a 72" pigment printer, to have the best details and quality negativ on transparent paper.

CURVE CORRECTION PATTERN

Each process has a different reaction to UV light.
To get the full range of Black and white, we need to apply a correction to the negative digital Print to get the perfect result into the final rendering.

The coated paper is adjust on the digital negative, then put into a press to optimise contact between them.
Our UV lighting Table will expose the paper as a Photographic camera do, and the chemical reaction will start here.
Each process as a particular time for exposition, depending on our Curve Correction Pattern.

Some long water bath are needed to clean the paper from the chemestry.
That is why we need the best watercolor paper, to resist the long manipulation of the paper

Once the paper in in his different chemical bath, we can still modify the final result using different tools as brush, sponge, scratch...etc

Some process as the REd Chalk Gum Print Need multi Layer pass, with different Time exposition and different watercolor pigments on the UV table, to create this very particular Drawing/painting result.
